THE BRIEF
La Mexicanada is a restaurant known for its high-energy atmosphere, and it needed a new drink menu that felt as exciting as the space while staying effortless to read. The goal was to turn the restaurant's eclectic branding into a streamlined design that honours Mexican craft traditions with a modern, approachable look. The menu had to organize a wide range of cocktails, margaritas, Mexican cervezas, shooters, daiquiris, wine and sangria into a clear two-sided layout.
THE APPROACH
The visual anchor of the menu is a custom border inspired by Talavera tiles, the hand-painted ceramics of Puebla, Mexico. It frames each page and grounds the design in authentic Mexican craftsmanship. The palette pays tribute to Mexico's warmth with sun-drenched yellow, orange and a soft cream, plus a deep blue drawn from traditional pottery pigments that adds contrast and keeps the layout from feeling monochromatic. For type, I paired the bold, condensed Gin for headings with the classic serif Mrs Eaves for menu items. I organized the drinks into clear sections and set off feature items like margaritas and daiquiris in solid orange panels so they stand out at a glance.
THE RESULT
The final menu captures La Mexicanada's lively personality in a design that is easy for guests to navigate. The Talavera border and warm palette give the menu a distinctive, authentic character, while the clean hierarchy helps guests find their drink quickly and draws attention to the restaurant's signature offerings.
