Upnxxt

Upnxxt is an AI-powered playground designed to introduce children aged 5–12 to foundational artificial intelligence concepts through play, creativity, and problem-solving.  They strive to fill the gap in readily available AI tools to help youth learn and develop life skills. The platform includes age-based interactive activities, educator modules, and real-world challenges powered by business partnerships.

Duration: 6 Weeks

Project Type: Onboarding UX and UI Design

Tools Used: Figma

The Challenge

Our goal is to design a user-centered onboarding flow and landing page that successfully drives parents and educators to engage with, download, and trust the Upnxxt platform. The scope includes:

  • Evaluating the current Upnxxt preliminary designs to identify what is working and what needs refinement

  • Conducting competitive research on similar platforms (e.g. Khan Academy Kids, Osmo, Scratch)

  • Synthesizing the vision of Upnxxt’s founders, staying true to their goals of labour market readiness, safety, and accessibility

  • Designing targeted content and UX/UI solutions for the onboarding experience (landing page, value messaging, and interaction flows)

Target Users

Primary Users
Teachers

  • Educators seeking age-appropriate, curriculum-friendly ways to introduce students to AI

Secondary Users
Parents

  • Parents of children aged 5–12 who may be cautious or overwhelmed by AI

  • Parents who seek activities to help aid in their children’s cognitive and behavioural development

Tertiary Users
Children

  • Children ages 5-12 who require safe, engaging, hands-on experiences with technology

Research

Our research will involve three key areas:

  1. Internal audit of Upnxxt’s current designs to assess usability, clarity, and trust elements

  2. Primary research through interviews with 3–5 parents and 2–3 educators to uncover concerns, motivators, and digital habits

  3. Competitive analysis of similar edtech and AI learning platforms to identify onboarding best practices and opportunities for differentiation (Seesaw, Khan Academy Kids, AI Club)

We will synthesize all findings to create actionable design recommendations.

User Flows

For the onboarding experience, we designed two distinct user flows—one for teachers and one for parents/children—to address the unique needs of each user type.

  • Teacher Flow: The sign-up process allows teachers to create an account and immediately set up and customize classrooms. Once signed in, teachers gain access to a dashboard that provides both a class-wide overview and individual student insights, supporting their ability to track learning progress and tailor instruction effectively.

  • Parent/Child Flow: For parents, the onboarding process includes account creation and email verification, after which they are directed to a personalized parent dashboard. Here, parents can log in for their child, view a tailored student dashboard, and track their child’s work, growth, and milestones over time.

By creating two separate onboarding experiences, we ensured that each user group could quickly access the tools and insights most relevant to them, improving both usability and overall engagement with the platform.

The Solution

For the final design, we focused on creating a clear, engaging, and trustworthy experience that speaks to both parents and educators, while still being approachable for children.

Landing Page

The landing page highlights the core value proposition upfront: AI learning made safe and effective for kids ages 5–12. It introduces the platform as a parent-approved, educator-tested tool with hands-on AI activities. The page is structured to guide users smoothly through:

  • Key Features: Showcasing interactive learning modules, dashboards for parents and teachers, and offline access.

  • Pricing Plans: Transparent subscription tiers tailored for individuals and educators.

  • Social Proof: Reviews from teachers reinforcing trust and credibility.

  • Clear CTAs: “Get Started” buttons strategically placed for seamless entry into the sign-up process.

Onboarding Flow
We designed two tailored sign-up experiences:

  • Educators can register by providing their details and school affiliation, then proceed to customize classrooms. Their dashboard gives insight into both whole-class and individual student progress, enabling them to better guide learning.

  • Parents complete a simplified two-step registration, including email verification. After creating an account for their child, they are directed to a personalized parent dashboard where they can monitor their child’s learning journey, interests, and progress over time.

  • Children’s Experience is customized at the end of onboarding, where learning preferences, styles, and grade levels are set—ensuring a personalized AI playground experience from the start.

By combining a trust-building landing page with an intuitive, role-specific onboarding flow, we ensured that both parents and educators feel confident adopting the platform, while children receive an engaging and tailored learning experience right away.
